‘Establishing a Centre for the Creative Arts at Evelyn Hone College, Lusaka, Zambia’ is an Irish Embassy in Zambia supported partnership project between BCFE, City of Dublin FET College, Ballyfermot Campus and Evelyn Hone College, Lusaka, Zambia, to develop and introduce new Diploma qualifications in Creative Music Performance, Animation and Graphic Design.
An exchange of Zambian and Irish creative culture is also being promoted and explored through the project. This exchange is across multiple creative disciplines, including art, music production, music performance, animation, graphic design and the wider visual arts. Over the 3 years of the project's timeline Irish artists travel to Zambia, and Zambian artists travel to Ireland as part of this cultural exchange.
The new Diploma programmes, validated by TEVETA ( Technical Education, Vocational and Entrepreneurship Training Authority of Zambia) at level 6 on the National Qualifications Framework, will provide industry-standard training and recognised qualifications in these three fields, for the first time, to students in Zambia.
Having started in November 2022, this ambitious multi-strand project deepens and enhances education and training for the creative economy in Zambia. It will expand the range of creative sector courses encouraging exploration and development of new programmes and promote responding to the needs of local creative economies through provision of appropriate courses. TEVETA has identified training needs in respect of assessment of new creative technology courses and this project is responding to this ensuring sustainability of good practice across programmes.
The project is a continuation of the partnership between EHC, BCFE, TEVETA, the Irish Embassy in Zambia, and the expansive creative community in Zambia. The project is also supporting TEVETA in it's commitment to work towards classifying EHC as the ‘Centre of Excellence for the Creative Arts’ in Zambia in 2024..
