Vocational Education / Creative Economy / Sustainable Development
The project is situated within the education/creative economy/sustainable development nexus. The new industry standard Diplomas, offered within the tertiary vocational sector, will provide access to training in multiple creative fields. Creative and dynamic graduates, trained across multiple disciplines, will catalyse the growth of the creative industry. Music, Animation and Graphic Design are intrinsically linked with all creative platforms including film, television, games, radio, mobile applications and the internet. Appropriately trained and qualified graduates are required to ensure high standards in these related sectors and to support their expansion.
Vocational education is well-placed to support the creative economy and contribute to sustainable development, responding to the needs of the rapidly growing youth population, through the provision of relevant innovative and modern courses. The African Union Commission framework for transforming education and training, the Continental Education Strategy for Africa, CESA 2016-2025, has placed improving vocational education as one of twelve key strategic priorities. Strategic Objective 8 states: “Expand TVET opportunities at both secondary and tertiary levels and strengthen linkages between the world of work and education and training system”. *
